Hope, Something the Government Should Understand

I saw a green eyed woman wearing a coat with many colors decorated with thorns, holding a baby brother and working in the forest at night. Actually, I was wrong; she is not a woman, nor a vampire. She was a 9 years old girl named Khadija who is managing to live both worlds, a world where she plays an old woman trying to make money and raising a kid by herself, and a girl who goes to school in the morning looking like a vampire with her red eyes because of her lack of sleep, and tries to learn what the teacher is saying even if that it’s difficult. The logic is difficult, not only mathematics logic, but also life logic. Why is 1 plus 1 equals to 2 to every person around the world, but education conditions are not?  I used to search, talk, argue, and discuss about education conditions in Morocco for years. Therefore, I concluded that cheating teachers, irresponsible students, lazy government, lack of equipment, crowded classes and bad books are the problems of education. It’s true that all these facts made us ranked really baldy in education. However, when I saw Khadija, I knew that it’s more than crowded classes or lazy government. It’s a matter of hope. When khadija goes to school, she does not know why it serves. She already knows her future. She will steal wood in forest and sell it. Khadija is thinking seriously to drop out school. I believe she has the right to do it because school won’t make her earn money, raising her brother, and helping her mother. It will only make her starting a  darker road that she will never make it to the finish line. However, she heard from her uncle Toufiq, who has a Peugeot 309 and lives in Meknes, that when someone attends school, he will earn a lot of money, and can be a doctor like the well smelled woman with the white costume helped her brother when he was sick. I remember that when I was 9 I was full of dreams and I wanted to be a movie director; and therefore,  I asked my dad and he told me that I can be whoever I want if I have the power of education . Nonetheless, Khadija’s dreams are limited. She knows that this road is not made for her. Actually, all happiness is not made for people like her. For instance, her brother is always crying since his birth, and she always tries to comfort him, feed him, and help him to stop crying and to paint his innocent smile again even it won’t last long starting when he starts to get hungry while there is not enough food again.  However, the school is not like her relationship with her brother. The school does not comfort her, does not help her, and does not feed her. It only makes her get beaten when she doesn’t know how to spell the word education in French until she cries. To whom are we kidding? why should she know how to spell education while she does not even know the real meaning of it? Khadija wonders:  why should I continue to go to school and get beaten? It won’t even get me food or wood to warm my family feet in cold Atlas December.  Khadija also imagines while wondering: What if the school is a place where I can have fun, a place that can make me learn how to live, how to be happy, and how to plan a future. Why can’t school give me a scholarship to convince my mom that education is good and there is no need to work anymore?  Why can’t school give me the power to make my mom proud?  Why can’t school give housing to my classmate Hamid who walks 7 km every day to attend class?  Why can't school give me hope? Then, I asked myself as khadija did: why can’t school give students hope? Khadija asks a lot of questions, but she does not know a lot of things. Surprisingly, even many educated people, and me, do not know as khadija doesn't the most important thing: Normally, in an Islamic country as some claim, in age of information as some believe they are fitting in; life is not about who we are, or how much we earn. Life is about what we do for others, and how much we can share what we earn with needed people. We are born to help people, to raise them when they are down ,and mostly, to give hope starting from nothing, finishing to everything.  To illustrate, one of the main reasons why Moroccan are failures, is because Europe and North America help a failure until he succeed, but here, we only hurt a successful dream until he get destroyed. To  sum up about Khadija's story, if the minister of education does not do his job and tries to brag about his power in front of teachers and talks like he is doing a good job, they will be people who will change the expression “I saw a girl named Khadija” to “ I saw a student named Khadija”. There will be people who will make Khadija feel happy when she is at school. There will be people who will help Khadija to be a doctor and presents Morocco in the NIH conference. There will be people who will buy to Hamid a bicycle so he can come to school. I know that there will be people who will show students all around Morocco that learning is not difficult. Learning is amusing and beautiful. For biology, it’s all starts with something called DNA that evaluates to give us this artistic body structure.  For computer science, it’s all about a machine that takes instructions from you as next programmers, and does what you want, and for law, it’s all about logic. Finally, there will be people who will start by reading this article and understanding that if the government does not do the job, we can do it. We can pick poor people hands to make them get up on their own feet. We can help each other, we can simply, lighten the road that Khadija was scared to finish not only because we can, but also because we care.

What is Education?

Education means to know the knowledge. Without this, life of human being does not operate. Education teaches the lesson of humanity. Education is very necessary for every human being. Education does not mean to get specific skill and get employment. But we say that anybody got education, if he has developed from every angle. It means if you have gotten education, you have developed every field. Education can not only get in childhood. But it  is regular and continues process. A human being gets education from his own experience, if there is no teacher for providing him formal education. When other person told the experience, at that time, a human being gets education. Education comprises good thoughts in human being. It is the education which carries human being in the way of success. With education, human being learns to use brain for taking any decision. Educational person contributes for the development of society. With education, human being raises weak and uneducated persons.
